1. What is your favorite apple dish? (BIG BONUS points if you share the recipe.)
PIE, applesauce warmed up with some vanilla ice cream and crumbled graham crackers and cinnamon is a dessert I have when theres no dessert in the house. Apple crisp...Apple brown betty. I love apples raw too.
2. Have you ever planted a tree? If so was there a special reason or occasion you can tell us about?
No. Folks seem to give plants at deaths and I am so against that...the person is greiving...don't give them something to take care of. I should mention that I'm awful with plants.
3. Does the idea of roaming around the countryside (preaching or otherwise) appeal to you? Why or why not?
Nope. Homebody.
4. Who is a favorite "historical legend" of yours?
Sally Ann Thunder Ann Crockett? Swamp Angel? Paul Bunyan?
5. Johnny Appleseed was said to sing to keep up his spirits as he traveled the roads of the west. Do you have a song that comes when you are trying to be cheerful, or is there something else that you often do?
I agree with that. My ipod shuffle only has songs that I really like and even then on many occaisions I skip and skip until I find something upbeat. As far as religious songs, Awesome God as done with Kirk Franklin is a current fave. Big bouncy boiseterous gospel.

In other news...I had the 3 hour sugar test today because I flunked the first one...not by much though. Also the home computer is dead and now the internet connection is acting up at home so Hubby's laptop is unhappy. I'm at the public library which closes...in a minute or two. It will be sparse for a while.

Baby planning...

Had the ultrasound and it seems like if might be a girl.
No 100% in the ultrasound game but...probably.
So now the naming begins...in earnest.

Everything is becoming a little more real.
Baby is moving, sure.
But now it has a gender and needs a name
and I'll have to get going on the room soon.

As a rule I don't do the room before week 31
and I've given away a lot of our baby things
because well, frankly I didn't think it would be needed again.
Still on the list is a new crib mattress
(Liam slept on his until last spring and its torn up!)
a diaper pail, a changing table and maybe a stroller.
We still have our umbrella one.
So I keep an eye out at garage sales.


Not rushing things.

Fall Friday5

1) A fragrance - smoke of burning leaves, pumpkin and apple.
2) A color - ORANGE
3) An item of clothing- Oh! Where is my fall-colors blanket sweater?
And can I wear it this year seeing as I am gettin large with baby?
Hmmm. Have to look around for it.
4) An activity - Oh I hate leaf raking and other fall chores,
but we've been enjoying local H.S. football and soccer.
Just got back from a game. Sadly, we lost...again.
Apple-picking is fun and I enjoy cooking them too.
5) A special day - Halloween?
Fall festivals like the one Flash and I intend to attend.
Hubby has Presbytery. Again, we win.
Also new baby's upcoming birth-day in late fall.

Update

Had guests over the weekend and am still catching up.
Very tired today.

Flash's interest changed over the weekend though.
We seem to be out of the Alien thing
and into Diego (who is a cousin of Dora the Explorer).
Much more age appropriate I think.
Diego likes to rescue animals
and wears a backpack called a Rescue Pack
which can change into different forms of transport.
As a matter of fact, Diego is spending the night with us tonight,
even though we are out of muffin mix.

Work is going well but I am impatient for Friday.
Ultrasound and sugar test.
Baby has been very active, particularly at night.
I'm thinking its a girl, although I have no reason to,
Flash thinks its a girl and has named her.
Neither Hubby nor I have an objection to his choice, which is strange.
It may actually end up being that name...if its a girl.
28 weeks and holding.

Nothin special

We had a great walk last night.
We went 4 laps, which Hubby informed me was a mile.
Flash ran his little heart out and Hubby ran with him a bit, too.
I, at 27 weeks, walked along happily.

Today I had school and Thursday is my busy day.
I read Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems aloud 8 times today.
I now have it memorized and...
miraculously, I still like it!

I made applesauce tonight
while Flash made a magic potion in a cool whip tub in the sink.
Hubby had session.
We win.

The walking regime

I've been really good about walking this pregnancy.
OK mostly good.
Flash and Hubby and I often walk to the stop sign.
Sometimes we bring the neighbors with us.
Somedays, OK most days, Flash is an alien or superhero. Or both!
We used to bring the dogs before the fence got fixed.

But for the past few weeks we've been attending High School football games on Friday nights.
That's what you do in a small town.
We always have a great time (and the church got us season tickets! really!).
After the game Flash likes to run around the track.
Usually its about 10 p.m. and he's running, running running.

So yesterday we went to the track to walk after supper.
Gorgeous weather, a fenced track all to ourselves and Flash could let loose!
Zoom!
I walked 3 laps and was DONE.
He was ready to run another few laps.
Tonight was soccer practice night so, no walk, but...
tomorrow night is Track Night and we're bringing Daddy!

I hereby resolve to ...

1. Walk more
2. Stress less, pray more
3. Read more kid's books! (Yes, its possible)
4. Keep my political views to myself
5. Feed Flash a vegetable other than cucumbers
6. Take better care of the car
7. Enjoy things more
8. Gripe less
9. Have breakfast with Flash every morning
10. Go to bed at a reasonable time...ooops.

Been reading ...

I've been reading a book called "stargirl" by Jerry Spinelli.
Fantastic book about a teenage girl that doesn't fit in.
She doesn't understand High School social rules and cheers for the other team,
has a pet rat, dressses as she pleases and never seems to understand the backlash against her. Its told from a point of view of a boy at school who falls in love with her
and experiences the same treatment she does.
I haven't finished it yet
but it strikes me as the sort of book a youth group could read.
Theres a second book now and I am told there are "stargirl fanclubs" around the country.

In other news, I am at 26 weeks, blood pressure normal and ankles are gorgeous!
There will be another ultrasound in a few weeks.
Flash has learned his birthday and a "scissor pledge" at school which governs the use of scissors. It includes no cutting hair!
Hubby is very very busy with some COM things
and I am treading water at work, but in a good way.
Next week I am calling Mo Willems week as I read and discuss his books
with Kindergarteners through 5th grade. Should be interesting.
