Fashion-istas switch
comments about a "big girl"
to"horrible taste!"
I went shopping today.
The horror!
The Horror!
What are these fashion people thinking?
Terrible horrible prints,
wedge heels,
bondage handbags!?
If the fashion police come looking for me, I'm handing them a mirror.

Waiting
Patience is a virtue... that is wearing thin today.
Luckily Lent is a time of waiting
so I am in good company,
well, OK, numerous company anyhow.
I'm waiting on several things,
some weighing only on my own mind,
some shared,
some said aloud,
some not.
I love the relationship of Advent and Lent.
Waiting for birth
waiting for death.
one in anticipation of life
and one...
in anticipation of suffering
but also life!
Waiting for well-earned joy.

A Day in the life
Flash...sniffles
Hubby...sick
Me? still chugging. Hooray!
Had a wonderful training session today about How Children Learn to Read, fabulous dinner (made by moi), bath for Flash, some stories and cuddles and then, with my household asleep, I went to bible study with my girls!
Some days are just so full!
In a good way!
I hope you all have a busy wonderful day too.

Friday5: Hey, Good lookin...
What'cha got cookin?
The revgals' Friday5 today is just..."What are you doing today?"
so...
1. Sleeping! I was up with Flash at 5:30 (darn Daylight Saving Time) and switched places with Hubby at 7:30. They let me sleep until 10!
And they took naps in the afternoon!
2. Watching kid's TV show's interspersed with looking out the window and watching the news...we are having an odd storm.
3. Going to a 3 year-old's birthday party.
4. Against my better judgment, hitting the grocery store. No bread, no toilet paper...whatcha gonna do?
5. Blogging, laundry, giving a bath to filthy Flash, chilling out in front of the TV.
Overall a nice nice day, the only thing I could have asked for was better weather!

Book Blogging
Fabulous new read-aloud!
Love it!
Don't Touch My Hat
by James Rumford (Knopf, 2007)
-a picture book.
Sheriff John atttributes his good fortune
to his lucky ten gallon hat,
but does just as well
when he mistakenly puts on his wife's fancy, new millinery.
Endpapers, artwork, characters, all great.
But the words!
You just put on your best cowboy accent and mosey through the book.
Great Fun.

Disclosure
I don't know where this blog is going right now. I don't seem to have much to say.
I am busy with work, family and the looming future.
Things are a little tense around here.
We'll find out about ords soon, then job-hunting begins in earnest.
But we just got that nice note from housing about moving out
and another about daycare for Flash.
Lots of things need to happen in a short three or four months.
Hubby says it will all work out.
Faith.
Faith huh?
Deep Breath...
OK, I can do faith for about a day and a half at a time now,
with only moments of doubt.
One day and a half at a time. Lilies of the field...Sparrows...
ps... I have discovered, as a result of this post and a long heart-felt talk,
that I didn't know much about the process
and that we will have some more things
to do for the presbytery between the ords and the call-hunting.
Probably not 3-4 months. Probably looking for a contingency plan.
Feeling a little more informed, and a little ill.

Cookout!
March 13th.
Temp over 50 degrees
Grills? check!
Food? check!
Neighbors? double check check!
Commence Cookout!
Hubby loves to invite everyone over for a barbeque.
And today's weather, combined with a strong desire for the end of winter,
the self-imposed solitude of winter, was perfect.
It was nice to have that kind of fellowship again!

Friday5-Love it, Love it not
1. Laundry
2. Graham Crackers and milk together for breakfast. A Family thing. Delicious!
3. Parades and Street Fairs!
4. Open windows! Shades and curtains open too. Some folks are cavemen and wish to live in a cave.
5. Radio (especially Talk radio)
You know this list probably should be really long
and includes things I can't even think of right now.
I really enjoyed reading everyone else's though.

The Adventures of Toddler Boy!
*He loves pencils, you can write with them
and the erasers are so tasty!
*We've watched the movie Cars probably 40 times.
I had no idea there is so much to talk about in that movie.
Or that when I explained that Mater did have an engine,
and pointed out where it would be, he'd burst into tears.
Not sure why.
*Sunglasses are fantastic. Giant heart shaped Purple ones are even better.
*He wakes up and yells to us predictable things-
I'm awake!
Wake up!
I'm wet!
I want out!
but this morning-
"Its too bright!"

Spring!
The temperature dropped dramatically yesterday.
The wind is fierce, but I am headed for SPRING.
I took the day off and my mom and I are headed to the Philadelphia Flower Show.
Hooray!
We had a fantastic time!
The theme was Ireland (so close to St. Paddy's Day)
and there was a Irish folk singer.
My mom loves that and was singing and clapping along!
We're going next year too...wherever we are.

Hey-la, hey-la! and a question
Flash and I were alone together for the weekend as Hubby went to a weekend conference. Flash and I built things at the hardware store, watched the Cars movie, played at the playground, generally had a fantastic weekend. No laundry, no dishes, toys everywhere and in bed by 9:30. Woohoo!
Hubby's conference was held not too far from a church that seems to be interested in us, so he took the opportunity to drive through. Said it reminded him of where he grew up...oh dear. He called at one point and told me he was driving down main street and he saw this and that and " Oh theres' the church...it doesn't seem to have any parking...and oh someone at the conference is from Thusnsuchtown and we talked about it and he said there a great pizza place up here we should try."
So, the question. The church has invited us for the weekend, Flash included. A church elder (and member of the PNC) has invited us to stay at their home, it would be more comfortable than the local hotel, and they have lots of room and toys because they have grandchildren. My mom has offered to take care of Flash for the weekend also, and I don't know what we should do. Should we bring him? Stay in a hotel or in a strange house? Hubby points out that theres no down time if we stay with them, but we really might be more comfortable in a home, plus there's the PNC thing. Its not until the end of the month. Any Advice?

Friday5: She's Crafty...and she's just my type.
"During Lent One of the Revgals' churches are exploring the creative and liturgical arts, with classes and speakers dealing with storytelling, iconography, dance, visual art, writing, and so on. The theme is "A Beautiful Thing," inspired by the story of the woman anointing Jesus and his declaration that "She has done a beautiful thing for me." (Mark 14, NIV)
We are working on the notion that everything we do can be considered a beautiful thing--a creative offering to God--whether it's gardening or scrapbooking or accounting or sorting clothes at the clothes closet or child-rearing. "
And so:1. Would you call yourself "creative"? Why or why not?
Yes. I have an artistic sensibility, I guess. I like to draw, and do so for work almost weekly. My knitting is not very artistic yet, but I took a clay class several years ago and made some very nice statues or figurines. These "run towards cartoonish" said my college art prof (B-). My whole family makes up wacky songs...Hubby especially. I've written some poems, things that are short and upbeat.
2. Share a creative or artistic pursuit you currently do that you'd like to develop further.
I'd like my knitting to get better overnight without me having to actually learn.
I'd like to enjoy it more too.
I'd love to try painting but its the sort of thing you have to take a class in,
because I consider painting to messy for my own home
...those who've seen my home are giggling.
Love to do another clay class, where the teacher would just let me make my funny animals.
I think there's a children's book in me, but frankly most children's librarians think that.
3. Share a creative or artistic pursuit you have never done but would like to try.
Community theater, dance, painting, tai chi...the list goes on and on.
Maybe in our next locale.
4. Complete this sentence: "I am in awe of people who can _____________."
Find the time to do creative things while working and taking care of home and family, not to mention the spare moola to pursue their hobbies. And do them well. And sell them at street fairs. I love street fairs, don't you?
5. Share about a person who has encouraged your creativity,
who has "called you to your best self." (I'm pretty sure that's from the Gospel of Oprah.)
Hubby and Flash who think everything I do, creatively, is good.
My current boss who keeps asking me to draw things.
Bonus:
I am currently wearing a Cat in the Hat hat and eyeliner whiskers for Dr. Seuss' birthday.
We had quite a party here at the library.
Pin the bow tie on the Cat, Fishing for Red Fish/Blue Fish,
Horton Hatches the Egg on a Spoon race,
bean bag toss into a Cat in the Hat hat,
coloring a Seuss hat.
Then a reading of the book and cupcakes!
A great, creative program.
