Hubby finished seminary and we are hoping for a call to a small church somewhere.
Not quite pastorzwife2b anymore.
My title has been chafing me for a while,
and I decided that it wasn't the "to be" part!
Its that darn "z".
Anyhow, It won't matter for much.

Friday5:Gifts and Talents
So with gifts and talents in mind here is todays Friday 5;
1. Personality tests; love them or hate them?
Love them, up to a point. Please don't ask me 3 million questions, and what does that say about my personality, really?
2. Would you describe yourself as practical, creative, intellectual or a mixture ?
Definately a mixture. I am very practical but I have a creative streak. I used to think I was intellectual...but I think I'm somewhat over that. I read alot, but I don't enjoy the more intellectual books, magazines and hate to talk politics (which seems to pass as intellectual conversation these days).
3. It is said that everyone has their 15 minutes of fame; have you had your yet?
If so what was it, if not dream away what would you like it to be?
No, sadly. Haven't even met any famous people.
What would I like it to be? Mom of the Year? How about one of those things where someone famous says "This woman turned me on to reading and changed my life!"
Or to be beloved by children for writing a fantastic book!
4. If you were given a 2 year sabatical ( oh the dream of it) to create something would it be music, literature, art.....something completely different...share your dream with us...
Um, write that fantastic book? Make my little animal sculptures? Learn to garden?
Take singing lessons and sing with a band, maybe?
Maybe I should take some time to discover a dream to share...
5. Describe a talent you would like to develop, but that seems completely beyond you.
I'd like to know how to read music. I have a good ear but no real understanding of the notation* I have no patience for "throwing pots" but like to make little clay animals in pottery class. Haven't taken a pottery class in 3-4 years. I'm waiting for the CPU head-jack to be perfected so I can know a language without having to learn it (a la Johnny Dangerous)
Bonus question: Back to the church- what does every member ministry mean to you? Is it truly possible to encourage/ implement?
This is not a term I'm familiar with but my guess would be that every member of a congregation has some sort of ministry that they share in. Is it like "priesthood of all believers?" Or is it like vocation.
I have a vocation, children's librarianship, and I have "jobs" at church, I teach sunday school, I'm in charge of making sure the nursery position is covered, I come to clean-up days and social events, I've even liturgized. There is a lot to do in a church, just like at home and in a family, and "many hands make light work".
It's easy to encourage. Implementation could be tricky but, its very, very hard to maintain it.

In a funny mood
I heard this comedian say that his child identified the church by the "plus sign" on top.
Hubby just about fell apart laughing.
I do believe that'll preach!
A friend asked us for Country songs that talked about redemption, or God for a sermon he was preparing
and I thought... Boy oh boy- you don't know country music well at all, do you?
(My personal suggestion was Martina McBride's Anyway, which says God is great but sometimes life ain't good...and that she prays anyway.)
Am I the only one who thought it was funny that Carrie Underwood's first hit is "Jesus Take the Wheel' and her second is "He Cheats" which has a very catchy refrain -
something about "taking a Louisville slugger to both headlights, carved her name into his leather seats and maybe next time he'll think before he cheats"?
I'm pretty sure she isn't talking about Jesus...
and
they say he drives a Chrysler. Yuk yuk yuk

the comic book post
Some of you have just rolled your eyes.
Those who haven't have probably already read Y: The last Man.
I am totally addicted.
But you have to read The Plain Janes by Cecil Castellucci
Not a superhero book...group of teen girls form a guerrilla art group in their small town.
In other book news I did pick up the new Janet Evanovich and it was great.
Can't believe we've gone 13 books and there's no decision between Morelli and Ranger.
I am firmly in Morelli's camp.
Settle down already Steph!

Reunion...It can't be time yet!
I got an email about my High School reunion today. Its in the planning stages still.
Can not believe its come up so soon. Has it really been that long?
High school seems to bring up miserable memories in so many people.
Why is that? Is it collective memory or did we really dislike those years?
I don't think I did.
So, I am kind of looking forward to this.
Just to see old friends and aquaintances.
I hope my buddies come, it would be a shame if they didn't.
Can not believe its come up so soon. Has it really been that long?

In personal news, maybe this "stall" in the Presby process will be a good thing.
Hubby has had some interesting phone calls and emails in the last few days, from places I consider to be "geographically desirable".
Flash is showing interest in a real bed.. We picked up a toddler bed at a garage sale, but it had no hardware to put it together, so it sits in pieces in the basement, waiting. I had thought that we'd set it up in our new house, when we get there. But maybe we'll be putting it together this weekend.
(other than me, sorta)

Another book... another day
Evil Genius - Catherine Jinks
Oh, so good!
But definitely for teenagers and above, for violence and evilness.
Nothing racy.
We had it until YA Sci-fi but I'd put it as a thriller. Super-genius Cadel has a miserable existence, but with the help of his therapist he enrolls in a college where he can learn to put his talents to evil uses. Some fantastic twists and rather serious too!
So good, so good.
Oh, so good!

Friday5 - Books!
Friday Five on books!!!
Um...I'm a librarian so, stunningly, I have very few answers to these...
1. Fiction what kind, detective novels, historical stuff, thrillers, romance????
Spy thrillers, mysteries, romance, mostly.
I am currently go through a superhero children's book phase.
2. When you get a really good book do you read it all in one chunk or savour it slowly?
Never enough time for the chunk anymore...but not a savor-er. If I like it, I'll read it through in several nights. If I don't like it...I give up!
3. Is there a book you keep returning to and why?

The James Herriot Books
ooh and theres another one...ooh, can't think of it.

Ocean's etc.
Well I promised an update on the movie and I've been tagged to do 8 RANDOM THings about me.
Ocean's 13 was better than 12 but not as good as 11.
Eddie Izzard is in it and not used to full advantage.
A lot of the gags are "telegraphed" so you can see the larger twists coming.
No huge twist.
In the first movie, Rusty was always eating something...not in the second and then again now in the third. Better for his character to be munching I think.
I do think I'll see it again though. Netflix.
8 RanDom ThinGs about Me
1. I was president of my college Juggling Club, and yes, I can juggle.
2. I would like to decorate my home (not this apartment) to look like a beach house.
3. I love my freckles and was so pleased when Flash developed some.
4. My recipe box is a record of people I've known, and the box is a plastic file box since the paper-eating dog (Max) decided it looked tasty.
5. I'm good with people and pets, but terrible with plants. We have three and I'd really like to "cull the herd"
6. I really enjoy reading the gossip blogs and magazines and I know far too much about pop culture.
7. I started to learn chess last August and I am regularly beaten by children in my afterschool chess program.
8. I went to college thinking I'd be a dentist.

ESCAPE!
Took a couple of days off, officially for packing. Unofficially..cuz I need to, I'm going crazy here.
So, today I'm off to see Ocean's 13 with Hubby! I completely loved the first movie, was so disappointed with the second one...I mean passing off Julia Roberts as Julia Roberts was funny as an idea, but not in practice...too cringe inducing and not as slick and well planned as the first movie. IMHO.
I'll give you my thoughts about 13 later!
Kid's book recomendation: The Adventures of Ordinary Boy by William Boniface. Theres a sequel now too...The Return of Meteor Boy. Did your kid love the movies, Incredibles or SKY HIGH? What about Chance Fortune and the Outlaws? Ordinary Boy may not have superpowers, unlike every other resident of Superopolis, but that doesn't mean he isn't a hero! Grades 3-5 I think...great cartoony drawings throughout. I haven't finished it yet, but so far, so GOOD!
Next on my list is a middle/high school version of the same theme "Evil Genius" by Catherine Jinks.

Update and Friday5
Update:
Visited PA church again. Hubby's phone interview with other church (WV) went well and they invited us to visit at the end of the month. Our housing extension was approved through July. People in our neighborhood are starting to move. A nibble from a church in TN.
Presby paperwork finished!

and...sigh...final assessment will happen in August. Did you miss the part where we'll be out of housing at the end of July? I am officially stressed out, and I am so upset with this "process".
It looks like we'll be nomads for a while... I don't see how we'll avoid the contingency plan now.
On a happier note its the Revgal Friday5!

Little Women? The new Carly Phillips (I got a pre-pub!), the new Janet Evanovitch (I wish) and the new Jennifer Cruisie (I don't even know if she has one).
2) What music accompanies you?
I enjoy the weekend radio on a "talk radio" station! On the weekends they play "Jersey's Favorite hits" and I know every song they play. Very beachy and appropriate.
3) What essentials of everyday living must you take (as in the health and beauty aids aisle variety)?
Loads of sunscreen, sigh. I like some mascara and lipstick...but not so much at the beach. I guess I figure so much of me is being shown that the rest doesn't matter...hmmm. Toenail polish is still Cha-ching Cherry. Have been to busy for the summer pedicure, so have been doing my own.
4) What technological gadgets if any, will you take with you or do you leave it all behind?
My little ipod shuffle, freshly filled with 128 summery songs, including Will Smith's Summertime, Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay, and other summery beachy songs (add your suggestions in the comments, remember I have 128 to fill).
5) What culinary delights will you partake in while there?As a bonus question, what makes for a perfect day on vacation for you?
Yum. Watermelon and fruits, cake, cold cut sandwiches (and PB&J for Flash) crab cakes, pasta salad, a nice grilled steak, lemonade, hot dogs with lots of relish...I'm hungry.

Brief update...
Graduation has happened...Presby paperwork is being finished.
Visited a church for the second time, Hubby was really sick when we visited last time, so they invited him back to preach again, without the hacking cough. Ah grace!
And we brought Flash, who enjoyed seeing all the barns and cows and thought their playground was great. It went alright.
Also Hubby had a phone interview with another church on Friday night and they've emailed that they'd like us to visit. The first church is relatively close to my family...a longish drive. The next one is eight hours from everyone we know. Really, I mapquested it.
